The end of year wrapped is almost here
5 thoughts on what I'd like to see in 2024's end of year wrapped.
It’s that time of year again - Q4 in the music industry is in full swing with Thanksgiving and the holidays approaching quickly.
That means one thing…(well, a few things but one thing we’ll focus on today) - the streaming platforms end of year wrapped campaigns will soon be upon us.
I thought it’d be fun to analyze a few things I’d love to see included in those wraps.
This newsletter highlights:
5 things I’d love to see in end of year artist wrapped campaigns
Let’s dive in ⬇️
It’s worth prefacing that some of the ideas below may actually already be in existence, I just overlooked or haven’t seen them. If they are in existence, I’d love if you could respond to this email and let me know!
1) Apple Music - charting albums
It would be really cool for Apple Music for Artists to generate an end of year wrapped report that shows if an artist had an album or song on the Apple Music charts. Those charts can be tricky in that if you don’t catch your release charting in real time, it’s easy to miss it since there’s no way to retroactively see it.
Knowing when and how your releases chart would be a valuable resource for artists and their teams.
2) Spotify - reoccuring top listeners
As part of the data included in Spotify’s major Wrapped campaign every year, it would be interesting to know how many fans that were in your top listeners this year were top listeners for previous years.
It would give a sense of how consistent those fans have been listening for as well as get a sense of what percentage are new fans.
3) YouTube - pivotal moments in a video’s trajectory
I’d love to see pivotal engagement moments in a video’s trajectory. For example, if there was a spike in views 2 months after a music video released, it would be interesting to see that in a year end report. An artist and their team may not even be aware of that spike unless they’re looking at the analytics in that moment in real time.
Or…maybe the first 24 hours of a video’s release has the most momentum - whatever part of a video’s journey has the most lifespan would be interesting to see.
4) YouTube - which video premieres had the most engagement
Assuming an artist utilized the premiere function for their music videos released in a given year, it would be interesting to see how the engagement from each premiere compares to one other.
Knowing this would essentially help answer the question of which videos had the most people watching at any given moment? Having an understanding of this could help identify any patterns or trends (for example, launching videos on certain days or times).
5) Spotify - reoccuring playlists
It would be awesome to see how many times an artist’s music was on specific playlists and what songs were added.
For example, as an artist it would be helpful to know if I had 4 songs on New Music Friday over the course of the year, 3 songs on Rap Caviar, 1 on Most Necessary, etc.
You can look at this in Spotify for Artists in real time but would be helpful to see in a wrapped report.
What would you like to see in these year end reports?
Thanks for reading, until next time.
