I checked in with 4 A&Rs

4 A&Rs give their take on artist development to close out 2024.

Hi,

As part of a re-occuring check-in series I do, I checked in with 4 A&Rs to get their perspective on artist development to close out 2024.

Here’s the question I asked them:

"As an A&R, what's your biggest takeaway from this year when it comes to finding and developing artists?

Is there anything missing from artist development today?"

Let’s dive in ⬇️

1) NavJosh - Head of A&R, Mass Appeal South Asia

"There are two...

a) I think there are more and more niche artists and sounds coming up which means you can no longer only work with/sign artists whose music you love personally. Along with just having a great taste, you should also know how to curate music that audiences will genuinely interact with.

b) Sometimes, you just never know what will work. It's becoming harder and harder to project and predict hits. I wish we had more resources across the board to develop artists.

That is becoming challenging in terms of bandwidth and budgets in this unpredictable music economy.

But it is personally still one of the most exciting aspects of being an A&R."
